Just A Quick Chat aftercare: 24–48h do’s and don’ts
By Design 25 Salon | October 5, 2026
Old Northside / Near North area just north of downtown Indianapolis
The most important rule after your Just A Quick Chat is simple: don’t change your hair on your own before your follow-up. That means no at-home color, no chemical services, and no impulse “I watched a video” haircut. In my chair in Indianapolis, this is the fastest way I see a great plan get thrown off. Give the recommendations 24–48 hours to settle in, then lock in the next appointment while timing options are still open.
Your first 24–48 hours: confirm the plan, then protect it
Just A Quick Chat is a 30-minute consultation where I assess your hair’s current condition and guide you toward the most effective services for the look you want. The aftercare is about keeping that assessment accurate.
Do this today (it takes 10 minutes)
- Re-read your notes and timeline while it’s fresh. If we talked about a specific order (repair first, then color, then a cut), keep that sequence.
- Book your follow-up within 48 hours if you want priority timing. This matters for my Indianapolis clients juggling work, kids, and event calendars.
- Follow any prep instructions exactly (wash or no-wash, avoid certain products, come with your hair detangled). Small prep details can affect how services take and how long they last.
- Ask clarifying questions within 24 hours. Send a photo if something changed after the consult, like your hair got soaked in the rain or you noticed uneven fade.
If you commute on I-65/I-70 or hop the IndyGo Red Line, booking early usually gives you better choices for after-work slots. And if you’re heading to Mass Ave or a White River event soon, build in buffer time. Big hair changes and big weekends don’t always play nicely together.
The biggest “don’t” in this window is experimenting. At-home color, keratin-type treatments, relaxers, perms, or even a strong clarifying routine can change your hair’s porosity and shift the whole plan we mapped out.
The first week: keep your hair “neutral” so your results stay predictable
A lot of people think aftercare only matters after color. But the week after a consult matters too, because it’s when you’re most likely to over-correct at home. I’d rather you show up to your next appointment with hair that looks like what I evaluated.
Avoid these common “plan-breakers”
- Don’t add new chemical services, even if they sound mild. Mixing services without a plan is how banding, dryness, and uneven tone happen.
- Skip heavy sweating sessions right before your follow-up if we’re prepping for color or a scalp-focused service. Sweat and product buildup can make the starting point harder to read.
- Don’t switch your whole product lineup. If we talked about moisture or breakage, I’ll guide you, but rapid-fire product changes can confuse what’s actually helping.
- Hold off on dramatic cuts or clip-in experiments that change your shape. If we’re planning extensions or a major change, I want a clean baseline.
Scheduling tip for Indianapolis: If you’re coming in from Broad Ripple, Meridian-Kessler, Butler-Tarkington, Fountain Square, or Irvington, weekend and after-work times go fast. I suggest choosing two acceptable time windows when you book, not just one.
Products and habits that keep your Just A Quick Chat recommendations on track
I don’t push a one-size routine after a consult. I do want your hair to behave the same way it behaved when we talked. That’s what helps me deliver results that match what you asked for.
Keep it steady
Use the shampoo and conditioner you’re already using unless I told you to change it. If you’re dealing with dryness, lean into gentle cleansing and consistent conditioning instead of “stripping it clean” once a week.
Be honest about heat
If you’re heat styling, keep using a heat protectant and try not to crank the temperature higher than usual. Sudden heat changes can shift breakage and change what I’m seeing at the next visit.
Document changes quickly
Take two photos in natural light if you notice a shift. Front and back is plenty. It helps me adjust the plan without guessing, especially if you’re coming back in after a busy week.
If you want a clearer picture of what a first visit looks like, read what to expect from your first Just A Quick Chat. And if you’re comparing consultation options, our consultation services in Old Northside breaks it down in a simple way.
Reach out fast if something changes, and don’t wait in silence
If you leave a consult feeling clear and confident, that’s the goal. But questions pop up later. I’d rather you message me the next day than stress for a week.
“After years of not going to the salon to get my hair done because I almost never got exactly what I asked for, I took a chance and made an appointment with Destiny at Design25... She listened to me explain what I wanted for my hair and executed the cut and style perfectly.”

What I want you to send if you notice a problem
- 2 photos in natural light (front and back)
- What changed and when you noticed it
- Anything that happened to your hair since we met (rain, pool, new product, heat styling)
- What your goal is, in one sentence (for example: “I still want brighter around my face, just softer than we first discussed.”)
If you’re ready to move forward after your Just A Quick Chat, I recommend booking your next service within 48 hours so you have the best shot at the timing you want. Our Old Northside / Near North location is an easy stop before you head downtown, and it’s a smooth fit for busy Indianapolis schedules.
